FAQ's

How long have you been doing this?

The short story:
Forever, minus a few years.

The long story:
My first photography memory is from a trip to Disney with my very own Kodak Disney 1988 Mickey- Matic Pink 110 camera. A high school photography class, an inspiring art teacher, a camera my mother found at a garage sale and hours spent in the dark room later and I was hooked. From then on, wherever I was, I was taking photos. For graduation, I was gifted my first digital camera, which came with me abroad to Madagascar. I pointed it at the majestic flora and fauna and friendly people inhabiting the island and surprisingly made it home without losing my memory card. With my now-husband's first real paycheck, he purchased a fancy pants digital camera to give to me for my birthday. I promptly signed up for a summer-long digital photography course and dabbled endlessly. Fast forward about 10 years to when I was hired as an architectural photographer by a NYC property management company. This gave me the confidence to pursue professional photography in the City. PR firms contracted me to photograph their beauty events and product launch parties. I focused on mastering lighting and learning the pace and angles of live events. After a life altering event in 2015, I thought to myself "What are you waiting for?" I launched JKHOP that year, scheduled my first family portrait session and shot my first wedding that spring.

Photographing clients pleases me endlessly and is my creative outlet that, I hope, also pleases others.

Do you Travel?

Yes! Wherever you need me to be, I'm there.

How do we book you?

Potential clients should send an email, call or text and that will get the ball rolling. We'll discuss needs, ideas, timeline, available dates, times, and places. Once we have our plan, the client will send a deposit. At that point, clients are offically booked with JKHOP.

Can you help us with planning?

Of course! I actually prefer to be in the know and offer suggestions to help with the flow and look of your event or session. For weddings, I am a timeline specialist and usually have ideas for photo ops, locations, and ways of keeping your crew happy and part of the celebration. The last thing you want is to miss out on your celebration because of discombobulated order of events. I aim to get the best and most photos in the least amount of time. For portrait sessions, I especially like to help with outfits and locations. After many portrait sessions, I've found that there a certain fabrics that photograph well, spots that work best for sunsets, and how to create the aesthetic clients aim to achieve.

What should we wear?

It's your choice! I usually pick a natural background so we have lots of options and it'll suit everyone's style.
Most if not all of my portrait sessions take place outside so it all depends on the season and setting. During client consultations, I make sure I understand your style, offer suggestions and make sure we have a cohesive vision.
Here's a tip: Texture is key! Pleats, chunky knits, embrodiery and sheen can all add a little magic to your photos. So will happy faces and cheery vibes.

How many photos do we get?

Each of my portrait session offerings has a set amount of images that are included with the session. Once the images are delivered, clients choose whichever photos they want from their digital gallery. I deliver as many curated photos from the session/event that exist and clients have the option to purchase as many images as they'd like. I've been told most clients purchase the entire gallery because they love their photos and can't live without them. For events, you receive unlimited photos!

How do we get our photos?

Clients receive their own digital gallery of edited, high resolution photos via online gallery.

What's your turn around time?

For portrait sessions, clients can expect to receive their digital gallery within 2 weeks of the session date.
For weddings, the couple will receive their digital gallery within 8 weeks of the wedding date.

I will always specify when clients should expect to receive their photos if it will be a different timeline than usual. Clients should feel free to ask me too!

Do you retouch photos?

All images are edited at the basic level. In general, color enhancements and lighting adjustments are made to photos. If the photograph calls for it, I add other artistic tweaks that amp up the look of an image. For more involved editing a fee may be required.

How far out do you book?

In the times of love and COVID, can we really say?
